Location Las Vegas. Oh no, this is the real Paris, Pardon.

For the project, “Football Globe Germany”, we were tasked with planning and realizing infotainment stations that delivered messages to the public. The digital centerpiece was a “corner flag dance game” accompanied by two info-browser stations. This project was sponsored by the DFB-Kulturstiftung (DFB Cultural Foundation), commissioned by artistic and cultural program curator Andre Heller of the Art+Sports GmbH, and designed by our client 3deluxe.

The “Football Globe Germany” toured from Tokyo to Paris to Milan to Zurich before arriving in Berlin for the opening of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ on June 8th, 2006.

The “Football Globe Germany” was designed to be a symbol, an urban meeting place and a multimedia installation. The sculptural project consisted of a dynamically formed white base supporting an illuminated ball that merged the shapes of the globe and a football.

Making-of

VVVV was used to control all aspects of the globe, both our games. The light installation was designed by the prolific light designer and technologist Andreas Karlen.

VVVV created the real-time responses on three interactive infotainment stations embedded in the base of the ball, and controlled 510 cold-cathode tubes that turn the ball into a stunning night-time light sculpture.
